Application for Postgraduate Research
Once you have determined the degree you wish to apply for by consulting the List of Available Programs (see the Postgraduate Coursework & Research Opportunities Guide (pdf 2.1 mb) you need to apply for admission to UNSW.
Online Applications
All applicants wishing to gain entry to a postgraduate research program are able to apply online. This online application will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. To apply online go to myUNSW.

Notification of Application Progression
Applicants will normally be advised whether they have been accepted into a program of study within three weeks of lodging an application form. In the case of international applicants, contact is made on a case-by-case and as-needs basis.
International students should allow up to 6 weeks (RSCH) and upto 3 months (PG Coursework) for visa processing and please take into consideration the time required for making travel arrangements. For current visa processing times please see Department of Immigration and Citizenship
Closing Dates
Closing dates for online applications for admission to postgraduate programs at UNSW Canberra are:
- 20 January for all admission in Semester 1 (March commencement)
- 20 May for postgraduate research admission in Semester 2 (July commencement)
Applications via the web portal Apply Online is always open for two years ahead of the current year.
Applications received within the two weeks before the commencement of the semester will not be processed as staff resources will be prioritised to process on-time applications. The application will be held and processed for the following semester. In these circumstances an application late fee will not apply.
Late applications will be accepted only in special circumstances to be determined by the College authorities.
A late application is likely to result in late enrolment for which a penalty fee may apply (currently $250). Students will be advised individually of any penalty charges.
