Professional Practicum Program Overview
Overview
The Professional Practicum Program is designed for students from overseas universities who wish to come to UNSW to obtain research experience or professional/industrial practice. This professional practicum is for a limited period (usually between two and six months) and may be a formal requirement for the award of a degree at the student’s home university.
To meet the needs of these students and UNSW Canberra staff, the University has adopted guidelines for non-award Practicum Students. These guidelines are designed to ensure that:
- Students are formally enrolled and are able to obtain access to the library, student services, campus amenities and recreational facilities
-
Students working in laboratories and other sites on campus are
appropriately covered by the University’s workers’ compensation
and liability insurance.
For more information regarding insurance, please contact the Risk Management Unit and/or visit their website www.riskman.unsw.edu.au . - The program enables Practicum students to obtain a Student Visa from the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs and access to low cost health insurance (for programs with a duration for more than 3 months).
Period of Enrolment
Practicum students are normally restricted to a maximum of six months. Longer periods of up to maximum of 12 months may be considered, if supported by the School.
